牙雕十八羅漢渡海圖臂擱

中國

清宮舊藏。清代(1644~1911)中期之作。臂擱亦作臂閣,俗稱手枕,書寫毛筆時用以擱置腕臂者。
 作品呈長條狀,覆瓦式,上窄下寬,取竹節剖面之形。正面採減地陽文技法,雕達摩面壁坐禪像。達摩頭呈卵圓形,耳佩環形耳飾。深目鷹鼻,雙眉緊蹙,作思索狀。身披雙領下垂式大衣,裹覆手足,胸前微袒,似坐於一卷邊的團荷上。其右側置有佛經和香爐,爐中浮起一縷青煙直上雲霄,幻化出一座空中樓閣。
 臂擱背面採高浮雕技法,呈現立體效果。凹面,四角有矮足。上方雕彌勒菩薩,坐於錦緞之上,由三藥叉舉托;身後立一弟子。下方雕羅漢渡海,其手中各持法器,分乘龍、獅、虎、牛、麒麟、龜、魚等瑞獸,乘風破浪而行。刀工精湛,線條柔潤如行雲流水,筆墨趣味濃厚,技法具有清代象牙臂擱雕刻名家杜士元作品之特徵。
