水月觀音菩薩像

甘肅省酒泉市敦煌市莫高窟第17窟出土。觀音側向左方，坐於水池中的岩座上，頂上有華蓋。頭戴化佛寶冠，蓄髭鬚。頭微抬，雙手抱膝，左腳置於右腿上，右腳踏於從水池中升起的大紅蓮上。水月觀音的形象由唐代（618～907）周昉首創，一般造型為左手拿淨瓶，右手執楊枝，背景有巨大的月輪。此像無月輪，且雙手抱膝，與一般水月觀音像頗不相同。
觀音身後繪棕、竹等南方植物，表現的是觀音道場補陀洛迦山，池中可見盛開的蓮花與水禽。背景天空塗白色，水池敷以綠色，觀音的頭光、膚色施以紅色暈染，岩座線條曲奇。
此圖繪於黃色質地粗糙的紙上，設色厚重，畫風獨特，為九世紀末至十世紀上半葉作品，右上角榜題未書寫文字。
