十六羅漢圖 趙璚

中國

畫面角隅處有墨書小楷的落款「四明□塘趙璚筆」等字樣。四明即今中國浙江寧波,趙璚生卒年不詳,南宋(1127~1279)寧波佛像畫家,名不見於中國畫傳,卻在日本《君台觀左右帳記》等畫傳中,留其名。此十六羅漢圖,為八曲屏風式,計十六扇畫面,每扇高87.6公分,寬47.9公分,各畫一羅漢,其中第二幅原作現藏美國波士頓美術館,日本千葉法華經寺所藏為谷文晁依原作補繪。法華經寺所收藏之十六幅,除幾幅因剝落後加補筆,第一、二、五、十尊羅漢江戶時代(1615~1868)補作外,其餘皆保存原作風貌。十六羅漢名號與玄奘譯《大阿羅漢難提蜜多羅所說法住記》所載相同,經中載:「佛薄伽梵般涅槃時,以無上法付囑十六大阿羅漢并眷屬等,令其護持使不滅沒,及敕其身與諸施主作真福田,令彼施者得大果報。」
 十六羅漢均坐於岩石上,表情不甚誇張,面貌寫實,顏面略施暈染。羅漢姿勢各殊,或仰或俯,或端身正坐,或倚杖而坐。身後無任何背景,身側亦無侍者和供養人,僅於第九及第十尊者配以虎和龍。此畫設色富麗、明快,用筆精嚴,筆觸柔細清雅。
