空海寺地藏十王像

位於日本奈良市雜司町空海寺本堂前，雕鑿於室町時代（1392～1573）後期。菩薩右手持錫杖，左手捧寶珠舉至胸前，跣足而立，像高133公分。削肩短頸，身著袈裟，身後之舟形背光刻有十王像，並以線刻雕飾圓形頭光，呈放射狀。衣紋線條稍微形式化，刻工較為生硬，予人近乎板雕的印象。
十王信仰約始於中國唐（618～907）末五代（907～960），據《十王經》記載，人死後於冥途要經十王殿受善惡的審判，依其生前之功過，決定來世的禍福。鎌倉（1185～1333）至室町時代十王信仰影響日本佛教的喪葬禮儀甚鉅，又因六道輪迴與地獄冥府思想結合，因而出現不少地獄圖像及地藏十王造像。
