Self-Abandonment to Dunhuang

「老棄敦煌」一印常見於張大千先生臨摹敦煌壁畫所鈐蓋之印。此四字是張大千自詡,摹畫敦煌壁畫時能夠推陳出新,開創新技法及畫風。
 此印以象牙刻成,清新的風格,有別於古代的面貌。若論近代印壇風格,可概分為兩類,一個是以粗獷風格取勝者,例如:吳昌碩、齊白石等。另一類則是秀逸工整者,如王禔、陳巨來等。
 這方印的篆書瘦勁如鐵線,細緻秀麗,所用刀法不慍不火,工穩瘦勁,仿王禔風格,秀麗清新。
 頓立夫原名群,字立夫,又字歷夫,晚號愜叟。祖籍山東,早年喪父,隨母流寓北京,自稱涿州人。家貧,曾為王禔作雜役,搜集其丟棄之印稿,推敲點畫。後治印師事王禔,且受陳巨來影響,多喜作細圓朱文。爾後潛心吸收漢印及黃士陵、趙之謙等諸家韻趣,風格工穩精嚴。
