色即是空空即是色 潘西鳳

「色即是空,空即是色」出自玄奘大師所譯《心經》。「色即是空」,即指一切物質現象,皆由因緣所生起,無有實體。「空即是色」,既然一切物質現象都空無實體,而由各種因緣所組成,故稱空即是色。
 此印為八字白文方章,分三行七字布局,是基本的平正章法。印文中「空」字為重文,對於文字重複的處理,作者以兩點代表,是避免單調的弊病。字體雖採用繆篆,但不像漢印粗厚的白文,而是以比較纖細的白文刻成。
 由於潘西鳳精於刻竹技巧,故刻工疏朗空靈,鄭板橋稱其技藝為濮仲謙之後,金陵派竹刻第一人。
 潘西鳳字桐岡,號老桐,別號天姥山樵。生卒年不詳,約活動於清乾隆年間(1736~1795)。浙江新昌人。後居揚州,受業於王虛舟,識見卓越,布衣終生。善音樂,能以竹製琴。精刻竹,嘗於竹筒上摹刻《十七帖》,精妙絕倫。工治竹印,布局應變率真,刀法尚健,印風工秀。
