華嚴五十五所繪卷

日本

此繪卷被認為是依據日本奈良時代(710~794)由中國傳入唐代(618~907)實叉難陀譯《大方廣佛華嚴經》卷六十八〈入法界品〉描繪,表現善財童子依文殊菩薩指示,南行參訪五十四位善知識,聆聽每一法門,最後參詣普賢菩薩,成就佛道。善知識共五十四位,因文殊出現二次,故慣稱為五十五所。繪製於十二世紀。曾經傳入奈良東大寺者為全段由五十四個場面所構成的繪卷,但現今東大寺留存三十七場面為一卷,一九六一年指定為日本國寶。十七場面已散逸,大阪藤田美術館藏一卷,東京國立博物館保管二幅,其餘流散為私人藏,以上皆為日本重要文化財。
 畫面採一參詣一圖,雖然每個場景皆為獨立構圖,但無界線區隔,而是連續性地描繪,畫面自然開展,為其特色。畫中各段上部題記,皆書有善知識的階位、場所、尊名及贊文。贊文則摘自中國北宋(960~1127)文人楊傑的《大方廣佛華嚴經入法界品讚》之讚頌。
 畫面大多作半圓形環繞的布局,以主尊為中心,侍者圍繞一旁,形象較小,童子與善知識幾乎呈靜態的見面,安靜進行參訪。背景以山坡、樹木、花草、岩石等自然景物與人物相輝映。色彩以朱紅、黃褐色為主,使用淡墨線,具透明感的淡彩表現。筆觸輕快,畫風清新,設色典雅,主題明確,為平安時代(794~1185)末期繪卷的樣式之一,屬上乘之作。
