Lions as Dharma Protectors

這對護法獅雕造於十三世紀,表面留有彩繪的痕跡。獅子在佛教即象徵佛陀的無畏與偉大,為人中之雄者,恰如百獸之王的獅子。隨著佛教傳入日本,最早的獅子圖案出現於平安時代(794~1185),直至鎌倉時代(1185~1333)才較為普遍。
 此對木雕護法獅毛髮較直,瞠目張口,表現獅子的雄壯和威猛,屬早期的作品,風格自然,神韻十足。
