八千頌般若經經板畫及插圖

傳尼泊爾西林寺出土

傳尼泊爾西林寺(Sri Hlam Baha)出土。為梵文《八千頌般若經》,製作於一○一五年,係尼泊爾現存最早的彩繪貝葉經,共二百二十三頁,由善生賢(Sujatabhadra)手抄。此經特殊之處在於插圖以圖文標示出佛菩薩聖像名號和供奉之所在地,所記載的地方大部分以東印度和尼泊爾為主,也包括西印度、南印度、巴基斯坦、中國、斯里蘭卡及印尼等佛國聖地。
 圖中四頁貝葉,由上至下為第二十、七十四、八十九及一二七頁。第二十頁插圖為奔那伐彈那國(今孟加拉北部)的佛像,倚坐於殿堂內,雙手當胸似作轉法輪印。殿堂兩側上方有白、綠度母,各坐於蓮座上。第七十四頁插圖為補陀洛迦山的綠度母,倚坐於蓮座,正為前方的人物說法;度母與其他人物比例懸殊。第八十九頁插圖為鬱地延那(今巴基斯坦斯瓦特Swat)的金剛手菩薩,菩薩結跏趺坐於白色殿堂內,身綠色,裝飾華麗;殿外繪雙樹。第一二七頁插圖為拉迪亞(Radhya,今印度比哈爾邦勞里亞南丹葛爾村附近Lauriya Nandangarh)的阿育王柱、法王塔及佛寺。阿育王柱柱頭立一金翅鳥。法王塔由塔基、塔身及塔剎組成,塔剎由九層相輪、寶珠和華蓋組成。寺院為方形建築,屋頂有各類圖紋,窗四周繪黑色圖案,這些圖紋及圖案應為該寺的標誌。插圖皆以紅色為地,顏色鮮豔,筆觸輕快,線條流暢。
 此經上下二面經板為木製,高5.24公分,長54公分,各繪七尊菩薩。據學者辨識,一面為七波羅蜜菩薩,另一面從左至右為彌勒、普賢、月光、觀音、網明、香象及海意菩薩。菩薩手結不同印相,姿勢不一,微扭的身軀為尼泊爾常見的表現方式。
