餓鬼草紙

日本

日本平安(794~1185)末期鎌倉(1185~1333)初期六道輪迴思想普及,故有此餓鬼繪卷產生。繪製於十二世紀,為六道繪之傑作。現存二卷,一卷為京都國立博物館藏,根據《正法念處經》卷十六、《佛說救拔焰口餓鬼陀羅尼經》和《盂蘭盆經》描繪,由詞書七段、圖繪七段所構成,一九五三年指定為日本國寶。另一卷是東京國立博物館藏,據《正法念處經》卷十六、十七繪製,無詞書,由十段所構成,一九五二年指定為日本國寶。
 京都國立博物館藏第二段食水餓鬼之畫面是描繪盂蘭盆會之日,寺院門前熱鬧的景況。圖左邊有一佛塔,內供奉阿彌陀佛三尊像,下方左右兩人,手持念珠合掌,作施食供養,旁邊二人拿著水桶灑水,諸人均不見餓鬼匍匐於地上舐水;右下方蹲坐戴斗笠者,正在為頭裹披巾婦女於版木上捺印佛像,人們熙來攘往,人物表情多彩多姿。
 京都國立博物館藏第六段為口中吐出火焰的焰口餓鬼,向阿難尊者訴苦的場面,餓鬼披頭散髮、指甲尖利,獠牙外露,瘦削露骨,匍匐地上,形象寫實。第一段為餓鬼想喝水時被鬼卒追趕,而渡河舐旅人腳上的水滴以繫命。第七段為僧人唱誦佛名和持咒,將食物撒於地上時,餓鬼身繫兜襠,從山裡衝出來,接受甘露法食的情形。
 東京國立博物館藏第二段為伺嬰兒便餓鬼,乃窺伺婦人生產的處所,以求得嬰兒之便而斷其命。第四段疾行餓鬼,則為遊走於墓地,喜好接近死屍的餓鬼。
 二卷用紙皆以雲母為地,具柔和光澤的效果,以線描為主,筆觸輕快,薄施淡彩,以大和繪的手法表現,場面活潑生動,反映當時的庶民生活,甚至餓鬼的形態,均顯得詼諧有趣。
