印尼蘇門答臘出土

印尼蘇門答臘(Sumatra)出土,為室利佛逝王朝(Srivijaya,約7~13世紀)的作品。蘇門答臘島在美術史上的重要地位,起源於室利佛逝王朝,此王朝位處航海交通要道,對於佛教文化在亞洲地區的交互傳播,扮演相當重要的角色。六七一至六九五年間,中國唐代(618~907)僧人義淨曾二度停留於此研究佛法,七世紀起,該地成為大乘佛法的中心。
 菩薩一面八臂,頭戴三角寶冠,髮式呈連續的斜向條紋,髮辮沿頂髻垂至肩膀。面相圓滿,斂目,闊嘴厚唇,帶著寧靜的微笑。豐胸,腰肢細長,圓腹深臍。飾臂釧、項鍊,聖線長及兩股之間。跏趺坐姿,八臂於身體兩側對稱排列呈扇形,顯得平穩安定,姿態柔美,除右上手持金剛杵外,其餘手上持物因毀損而難以辨識。其造型反映了蘇門答臘之佛教造像特徵。
