Divinely Inspired Reception of the Two Great Sutras - Reception of the Vajrasekhara Sutra by Nagarjuna

此二幅圖為善無畏金粟王塔下感得圖及龍猛南天鐵塔內相承圖,原是日本明治時代(1868~1912)初期遭廢的奈良永久寺真言堂中的障子繪。兩部大經是指密教的根本經典《金剛頂經》與《大日經》,印度僧龍樹(龍猛)和善無畏藉由信心、願力,分別感悟此二經,此圖乃將其軼事圖像化,成為弘傳密教的機緣。據《內山永久寺置文》記載,推測此作是出自宮廷繪師藤原宗弘之筆,善無畏金粟王塔下感得圖中的題記為藤原定信所書。一九七三年指定為日本國寶。
 善無畏金粟王塔下感得圖係善無畏應北印度乾陀國王之請求,於金粟王塔下祈求佛力加持,終在空中出現金字「大日經念誦供養法」。圖中金粟王塔呈五重塔形,以春色為背景,善無畏著袈裟盤坐於鋪墊上,正抬頭指出雲端的供養法,命人書寫成《大日經》,身旁坐一侍童。
 龍猛南天鐵塔內相承圖係描述南印度有收藏《金剛頂經》之鐵塔,嚴密封印,諸神守護;龍猛七日間繞塔念誦,以白芥子七粒加持,塔門自開,發大誓願得以入塔,數日中暗記全部經文,書寫成《金剛頂經》。圖中以秋色為背景,鐵塔門扉打開,力士、神王現忿怒相,拒絕龍猛進入,塔內格外明亮輝煌,描繪寫實。
 圖中人物著唐裝,另有山野中唐獅嬉戲的異國風味,山丘、林間有花開、櫻樹、垂柳、枯木、烏鴉點綴其間。以大和繪的手法表現平安時代(794~1185)的景觀,為少數平安時代障壁畫之遺例,彌足珍貴。
