信貴山緣起繪卷

日本

作品共三卷,每卷高31.8公分,長877~1,422公分不等,繪製於十二世紀。主要採用中國五代(907~960)北宋(960~1127)山水人物畫法,筆觸流利,與源氏物語繪卷並列為日本平安時代(794~1185)的代表作。一九五一年指定為日本國寶。
 此繪卷描述十世紀上半葉隱居於奈良信貴山的命蓮上人展現神通力的事蹟。卷一詞書已佚,僅存圖繪一段,其餘二卷是由詞書和圖繪各二段所構成。
 卷一山崎長者卷,又稱飛倉卷,描述命蓮運用飛鉢法力將長者的米倉遷移以救濟饑民的經過;一日,為因應長者的懇求,用飛鉢將米倉中千石的米袋還回長者家中。畫中描繪命蓮身披袈裟、手持念珠,昂首將鉢投於空中,村民歡欣地蜂擁至門邊。以簡筆勾勒人物,活潑的線條帶動人群的動勢,張力十足。建築物的筆直線描,與柔和纖細的波浪成對比,摻雜懸崖、山水的變化。
 卷二延喜加持卷,表現命蓮受敕為重病的醍醐天皇(897~930在位)加持祈癒,傳說命蓮人雖在信貴山,但派遣持劍的護法童子飛起前往治病。卷三尼公卷,描繪上人之姐尼公自長野來,因東大寺大佛的示現,而得與弟相會的故事。
 繪卷充分發揮連環繪畫的緊密構圖,在長及1公尺餘的畫面,依序描出場景,展開接二連三的故事,以自由線條描寫風景,產生視覺效果。將傳說、庶民生活、山水併入繪畫形式中,自平安時代即已盛行,顯示繪師在充分吸收中國唐代(618~907)繪畫樣式之後的成果,不僅成為寶貴的史料,也是古典文學及繪畫的經典之作。
