十二天像

日本

原畫於日本平安大治二年(1127),被燒毀,同年依京都仁和寺圓堂後壁畫為範本重新繪製,乃平安時代(794~1185)後期的代表作之一。二○一○年完成X光影像數位化工程,維護保存。共十二幅,軸裝,每幅高144公分,寬127公分。一九五二年指定為日本國寶。
 自平安承和二年(835),為祈願龍體康泰,鎮護國家,人民豐樂,每年正月在宮中舉行「後七日御修法」的密教儀式,懸掛此十二天像作為方位之神,守護壇場。明治十六年(1883)移至教王護國寺灌頂院,今由京都國立博物館保管。
 每幅畫以三張絹布拼接成一畫面,中央配置約等身大的尊像,左右二脇侍較小,侍坐兩旁,呈三尊形式的對稱構圖。除梵天坐於蓮座外,其餘皆坐於圓毛氈座上。豐麗的彩色圖案和細緻的碎金紋樣及金箔表現,構成纖細巧緻的特色。衣服間飾團花紋、卷草紋等,衣襬施以白色暈染,和丹地朱色暈染相互輝映;並使用退暈技法,內部為紅色濃彩,向外漸淡呈桃色,再以白線勾描輪廓,並混合中間色,表現柔和色調,作風洗練。
 由於線描品質和表現形式的差異,推測係由多位畫師所作。其中,以風天、梵天樣式最古。作品極富裝飾性,反映十二世紀院政時期的佛畫特色以及宮廷貴族的審美觀。
