該像即刻劃《過去現在因果經》卷三所述，成佛前的悉達多太子為追求真理出家修道，遍訪仙人及修行者，入苦行林淨心守戒，日食一麻一米，苦修六年之久，身形消瘦有若槁木。
造像頭部已佚失，全身枯瘦，胸骨筋脈顯露。骨瘦如柴的悉達多太子，身上僅披一條帔巾，雙手結禪定印，結跏趺坐於草墊上，懸裳垂於雙腿間。
台座前面雕刻釋迦成道後初次說法的場面。中央為成道後的釋迦牟尼佛，身著袈裟，右手舉起施無畏印，左手握衣裾。聽法五比丘弟子，三位坐佛陀右邊，兩位坐在左邊，左端另一位站立的人物可能是該像的功德主。
