Amaravati: Paying Respect to the Buddha’s Footprints

印度安得拉邦阿瑪拉瓦提遺址出土

印度安得拉邦(Andhra Pradesh)阿瑪拉瓦提遺址(Amaravati)出土。原為大塔圍欄上的浮雕裝飾,浮雕中間有斷裂修復的痕跡。作品表現釋迦牟尼佛成道後,回到家鄉迦毗羅衛國,對兒子羅●(O)羅及釋迦族的人們說法,最終使其皈依佛教的故事。
 圓形畫面中央為寶座,上置坐墊。座上雕飾三寶標和法輪,兩側為火焰柱,座下腳踏刻有佛足印,象徵佛陀。四周聚集釋迦族的男女與比丘,人物鋪排前後有序,構成獨特的三度空間縱深感。
 作品雖仍然恪守不以人形來表現佛陀的傳統,但從畫面的構圖、人物的造型等方面判斷,製作時間應該在薩塔瓦哈納王朝(Satavahana,約200 BCE~250)盛期。此時是阿瑪拉瓦提藝術的成熟時期,人物造型為南印度式,氣質溫文柔雅,形體與衣服的線條比北方秣菟羅(Mathura)更見柔和。
