此像造型質樸，面部圓正，雙眉以陰刻表現。雙目圓睜，目光正視，神情凝重肅穆。袒上身，聯珠項鍊飾於頸部及臂部，雙手相握施智拳印，結跏趺坐。靠背頂部有一金翅鳥，其下左右對稱刻摩竭魚，佛像肩部後方為一橫梁，架於相背的獅、羊上。覆蓮台座為方形，底座寬大，上以陰線刻折直紋，四隅各矗立一圓塔，代表四方佛。
此像屬於印度八至十一世紀相當流行的波羅王朝（Pala，約8～12世紀）風格，一般認為是從印度傳入西藏之作品。
