位於東院夢殿。約造於八世紀下半葉，與唐招提寺鑑真和上像並稱為奈良時代肖像之代表作。一九五二年指定為日本國寶。
此坐像與真人等身，採夾紵脫胎技法製作，妝彩。內著僧祇支，外披袈裟，衣角繫帶垂掛左肩，雙手持如意置於膝上，結跏趺坐。頭頂稍微高隆，下頦微尖，眼梢上揚，鼻子高挺，顴骨寬大，身軀雄渾厚實，表現出魁梧的身段。襞褶流暢，曲線起伏，呈現其流動感，顯示夾紵乾漆造像的柔軟質感。
像內架設木框支撐，像底貼飾後來補上的布帛，雙手與裙裳尾端皆為後來補作。
