生卒年不詳。北宋（960～1127）末南宋（1127～1279）初畫家。開封（今河南開封）人。工畫釋道人物、仕女，尤擅繪戲嬰圖和貨郎圖。北宋宣和年間（1119～1125）任畫院待詔，南宋隆興年間（1163～1164）因畫佛像稱旨，獲皇帝讚賞，補授承信郎。
師從畫院待詔劉宗古，後自成一家，畫風縝密精麗。其仕女畫，能得其閨閣之意態，不在表現施朱敷粉、鏤金佩玉的妝飾；所畫童嬰，深得其狀貌，特善於表現兒童嬉戲時天真聰慧的神情。
傳世作品有古佛像、羅漢、灌佛戲嬰圖、秋庭戲嬰圖、五瑞圖、貨郎圖、開泰圖等，均藏臺灣臺北故宮博物院。
