原供奉於日本奈良唐招提寺講堂，現藏於該寺新寶藏館，為寺院創建時木雕群像的代表作之一，約雕造於八世紀中葉，現為日本重要文化財。
該像除右手胳膊前半與左手腕已失外，頭部軀幹至台座下部軸心由榧木整材雕成。螺髮已佚，仍留有塗漆的痕跡，耳朵、口、鼻皆有些磨損。整體比例頭部略小，雙頰豐盈，五官集於中央，刀法銳利，顯示威武的面貌。體軀壯碩，胸、腹、股間等的起伏，表現粗大厚重之量感。著袒右袈裟，呈現衣薄柔軟的質感，腹部至股間形成「Y」形衣褶，腿部無褶紋，以強調肌膚之張力。衣紋線如細繩般，尤其是正面衣裙下襬的波狀曲線，與垂掛於肘臂的多重摺疊之直線衣紋形成明顯對照。其繩狀的衣紋表現被認為與中國唐代（618～907）檀像、石雕像之作風有關。
