傳陝西省咸陽市三原縣出土。因無紀年銘文，無法確定其製作年代，但從濃厚的犍陀羅風格造型判斷，約鑄於四世紀上半葉，屬於十六國（303～439）早期的作品，可能是目前中國發現最早期的佛菩薩雕像。
菩薩髮髻呈扇形，長髮垂肩，寬額，額頭正中有白毫相，杏仁形眼，鼻大唇小，蓄髭，似中亞人相貌，神態端嚴。袒上身，佩頸圈、胸飾，戴臂釧。帔帛自左肩垂掛，兜向右肘，另一端繞過左肘垂下，襞褶繁複，呈「U」字形，褶紋流暢。右手作無畏印，左手平肘提淨瓶。下著大裙，著繩鞋而立。據此像手提淨瓶之圖像特徵，或被推測為彌勒菩薩。
