據像內墨書記載，日本鎌倉建仁元年（1201）由勝慶等二十二位僧人發心供養，大雕刻師定慶及手下盛賀等四人雕造。推測原位於奈良興福寺東金堂，現藏於東京根津美術館。
該立像由多材檜木接合而成，臉部為後來修補，像刳空，外表施加彩色、碎金紋樣。頭結高髻，髮紋分縷清晰平整，弓形雙眉，鼻挺，唇邊蓄鬚，神情恬靜。鎧甲上披袈裟，左手握蓮，右手舉至胸前，拇指和中指相捻，腳穿鞋，立於二重台座上。衣服紋樣仿布料花紋，呈現襞褶變化和質感，袖口寬大鼓起，有飄動感，袖內多重衣褶，顯示衣服之厚重。其造型寫實，被認為是汲取中國宋代（960～1279）雕刻風格後所興起的新樣式。
