佛結跏趺坐於仰覆蓮座上，下為金剛座，手結說法印，身上衣紋呈弧形線條，對稱和諧。頭光劃分為三層，內層陰刻一圈古孟加拉文，中層雕聯珠紋，外層飾火焰紋。背屏邊緣刻以流暢的火焰及帷幔紋，平添裝飾效果。金剛座正面刻法輪及雙鹿，表示佛在鹿野苑初轉法輪；左右各有蹲踞的獅子，意喻佛陀的法音如獅子吼。
造像具有印度波羅王朝（Pala，約8～12世紀）早期的特點。波羅王朝所造的佛像大都刻有銘文，也保存佛陀三十二相的特徵，不僅吸收了笈多王朝（約320～550）鹿野苑造像的典雅，也融合了當地人的相貌特徵。此造像雖然承襲笈多王朝的雕刻技法，但形式上卻更簡練，無過多的裝飾及人物。
