該像以日本京都嵯峨清凉寺木造釋迦牟尼佛立像為模本而雕造，製於十三世紀，現為日本重要文化財。模刻清凉寺木造釋迦牟尼佛立像之風，自平安時代（794～1185）後期開始盛行，故通稱為清凉寺釋迦牟尼佛像。
此像帶有渦漩紋般的頭髮，額窄面長具異國風的相貌，體軀豐腴，端立於多重仰瓣蓮台上，像高97公分。袈裟覆及頸部，表現同心圓狀的細密衣褶。眼瞳鑲嵌人工寶石，耳中放置木珠（如寶石、珍珠、圓球等物），經由X光穿透攝影被認為像內與原像同樣有五臟等裝藏品。造像整體、裝飾細部及裝藏品等，皆模刻出原像的樣式及特徵，在眾多的清凉寺釋迦牟尼佛立像中，特別引人注目。採多材接合之寄木造技法，外表施加淺紅色，衣紋線上裝飾碎金，各處亦配以碎金的花紋。
