多羅菩薩像

尼泊爾

此尼泊爾木雕坐像無明顯辨識特徵,推測為代表智慧的度母。度母綰圓筒狀高髻,未刻劃髮絲紋路,頂飾寶珠。面作橢圓形,眉目細長,尾端上揚,鼻梁高挺,薄唇秀巧,微帶笑意。豐胸纖腰,上身所佩戴的銅製項圈和臂釧,應為十八至十九世紀頃所添加。右手置於膝上,拇指與食指相捻,左手屈舉於胸前,手心刻劃菱形花朵紋樣,自在地坐於束腰仰覆蓮座上。通身彩繪,雖已斑駁,仍可見殘餘的紅色顏料及花卉圖案。
 度母雙肩較寬,在尼瓦爾(Newar)傳統藝術中較少見,可能受到外來風格的影響。其精雕細琢的臉形和五官,修長的腰身,圓渾的腹部,流暢的線條,均顯示出尼瓦爾佛教藝術精湛的雕刻技法。尤其上眼瞼如葉片形的刻劃方式,係取自佛禪定像中眼睛半闔的神態,乃尼瓦爾木雕最具魅力與精緻的表現方式之一。
