十六羅漢圖 (傳)釋貫休

傳五代(907~960)貫休所作,然應為北宋(960~1127)的摹本。共計十六幅,每幅高90公分,寬45公分。貫休的生平和繪畫成就在《益州名畫錄》、《宣和畫譜》及《宋高僧傳》等均記載甚詳。其中《益州名畫錄》稱:「禪月大師,婺州(今浙江金華)蘭溪人也。俗姓姜氏,名貫休,字德隱。天復年(901~904)入蜀,王蜀先主賜紫衣師號,師之詩名高節,宇內咸知。」
 自五代以來,貫休的羅漢畫備受推崇與讚賞,石刻墨拓,廣為流傳。現存貫休十六羅漢圖,除絹本、紙本,亦有石刻;有設色,也有水墨,大都為後世輾轉傳摹。其中,以此套日本宮內廳所藏十六幅羅漢圖最接近原貌,其與西湖聖因寺貫休原作刻石,有多幅相符,又與蘇軾的「禪月所畫十八阿羅漢」贊語,亦多可對照處。如第十四伐那婆斯尊者,結跏趺坐於石巖中,斂手閉目,狀似入定。蘇軾贊語:「六塵既空,出入息滅,松摧石隕,路迷草合,逐獸于原,得箭忘弓,偶然汲水,忽焉相逢」。
 畫中羅漢形骨古怪、狀貌奇特,異於常人,如《益州名畫錄》卷下,稱貫休「師閻立本畫羅漢十六幀,龐眉大目者,朵頤隆鼻者,倚松石者,坐山水者,胡貌梵相,曲盡其態。」特別是第十二那伽犀那尊者,豐眉軒鼻,雙目炯炯,張口似作論辯,合十托腮,側倚崖石,驟視可怖,熟睹泰然;第十六注荼半託迦尊者,倚坐枯樹,左手伸指,右手持扇,前額、鼻尖、腦後刻意凸出。
 羅漢的衣紋、顏面、肌膚及骨骼等,以多重似同心圓及波狀的皺褶呈現,並施以濃厚的暈染。其背景有簡單的岩石樹木,行筆堅硬,多有轉折,與衣紋線條形成鮮明對比。
 有人問貫休筆下羅漢的形象來自何處,其謂:「休自夢中所睹爾。」然禪者對萬里長空,借一朝風月,示人正法眼藏。貫休自身是位禪僧,故其藉由羅漢像的舉手投足,表現禪家道在平常、本來面目的特色。
