Mogao Cave 17: Longevity Bodhisattva

CHINA, Gansu, Dunhuang; Five Dynasties

This banner features a standing Bodhisattva wearing a headdress, earrings, a necklace, and bracelets. The Bodhisattva joins the palms in reverence in front of the chest. A stole billows around the arms. The bare feet rest upon a lotus pedestal with red petals. The headpiece of the banner is decorated with an image of a triangular flower.
An inscription beside the nimbus of the central figure identifies it as Longevity Bodhisattva.
