Born in Gungthang, Ngari (present day Shigatse), Khepa Drime was a monk and master painter of the Menri school during the 16th century. His many sutra illustrations, which were engraved into woodblocks, provide valuable information for research on Menri art.
The images found within his Mahasiddhas illustrations of the Treasury of the Supreme Vehicle appear in the Gyantse painting style, however, the figures appear more rounded and stiff. Their garments are less elaborate, such as was seen in the style of Ming dynasty (1386–1644) depictions. The majority of these illustrations feature a background in the Chinese landscape style as opposed to the common Newar style, thus demonstrating the traditional aspects of the Menri school.
