The Bodhisattva stands on a lotus pedestal with one hand holding the skirt and the other held up in what might have been abhaya (fearlessness) mudra. The figure wears a headdress adorned with golden ornaments that has ribbons hanging down to the ears. An ancient Chinese symbol is on the headdress crest. The eyebrows are painted arcs, the eyes are long and cast downward. About the mouth are a slight mustache and lip beard. The jewelry worn includes a necklace, a collar-necklet and bracelets. A knotted sash secures the skirt.
The gilding is remarkably well preserved and the colors are still vibrant. One of the reasons could be that it was buried immediately after it was repainted during the Northern Song dynasty (960–1127).
