Located within the Lawkahteikpan Temple, this gilded statue displays characteristics of the Bagan Empire (circa 849–1287). The arched backscreen shows strong influence from the Pala period (circa 8th–12th century) of India and depicts the Life of the Buddha.
Certain features of the Buddha’s head are painted. It is covered with small curls and decorated with a lotus bud above. Elongated and hollowed earlobes stretch past a thick neck showing three lines. The Buddha wears a monastic robe that covers only the left shoulder, over which an end of the garment hangs down in a stylized fold. The right hand makes the bhumisparsa (earth-touching) mudra as the figure sits on a lotus throne in full lotus position.
