Gilt bronze
The Bodhisattva is seated in half lotus position and holds a fan made of leaves in the right hand and a blossom-shaped bowl in the other hand. The figure wears a tall crown that is damaged and may once have included a Buddha image. The statue has a marked similarity to the paintings of Avalokitesvara by Zhang Shengwen of the Dali Kingdom (937–1253), which seems to confirm the identification. The figure is lavishly decorated with jeweled ornaments and wears a number of stoles. One of the stoles is knotted diagonally over the chest while another drapes about the arms and falls to the lap.
