The Buddha was created during the Central Java period (circa 7th–13th century). The figure is seated in full lotus position on a double lotus throne with the right hand held in abhaya (fearlessness) mudra. The hair rises to a crest jewel that replaces the usnisa. The figure wears a monastic robe that leaves the right shoulder bare and the left hand tightens the fold of the robe about the left arm. The throne is supported on a rectangular Sumeru base where the mandorla is attached. The mandorla is plain on the inside with a decorated rim surrounded by flames. The design of both the base and mandorla show influence from eastern India.
