Homage to Amitabha Buddha

Red-character square seal

Homage to Amitabha Buddha

CHINA

This seal features six characters carved in Wu Xizai’s small seal script, evenly distributed among three columns with two characters each. Strokes and border lines are thin and powerful, exhibiting clear indications of the knife work, which was executed as if using a calligraphy brush. This integration of scripting methods results in a seal style that is smooth, clear, and tranquil.
Zhang Muyu is a seal engraver from Yantai, Shandong. He has an original name of Jing and is also known as Hefan. Having studied under several calligraphy and seal engraving masters including Sun Mengqi and Lui Shaolan, he has achieved considerable success in the field of seal art. Zhang’s works are exemplary of his attraction to the modesty, sincerity, and honesty of Han seals, which he has diligently studied for many years. He took refuge in the Triple Gem and the Five Precepts during his middle age.
