Schist
This statue depicts a young Buddha with large curls and a flat usnisa. The monastic robe that covers both shoulders is devoid of any folds apart from slight indications around the hem and the fall of the material from the arms. The right hand is in varada (wish-granting) mudra while the left tightens the fold of the material about the arm. The left foot is advanced, distributing the weight of the body so the hip and head incline to the left. The simple mandorla has broken short at the shoulders but shows foliated patterns around the edges.
The Sanskrit inscription along the pedestal states that several donors commissioned the statue and the merit is dedicated to their teachers, families, and all sentient beings. The kneeling figure at the Buddha’s feet may represent one of the donors.
