This box was used to store 34 fascicles of the Lotus Sutra, Sutra of Innumerable Meanings, Samantabhadra Meditation Sutra, Amitabha Sutra, and Heart Sutra. It was listed as a National Treasure in 1956.
The rectangular wooden sutra box consists of three layers. It measures 35 cm long, 22.1 cm wide, and 19.5 cm high. The surface of the box is divided into light and dark sections. The light sections were sprinkled with fine gold powder, and the entire box was Maki-e lacquered and highly polished. The box is decorated with simple blue, brown, and gold circles.
