Kao Pai-Shih

CHINA, Zhejiang, Ningbo

Kao Pai-Shih was a seal engraver and calligrapher originally from Zhenhai district in Ningbo, though he later lived in Taiwan. He worked for many years in the news industry, holding important positions including chief editor for presses in Beijing, Fujian, and Taiwan.
His calligraphy, in running and regular scripts, are smooth and intricate. In seal engraving, Kao exhibited firmness and simplicity, resembling the style of Wu Changshuo. His works include Excerpt from Amitayurdhyana Sutra, which was engraved onto the Stele Wall of Fo Guang Shan Monastery in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
