Reliquary Pagoda

CHINA; Qing dynasty

This reliquary is in the form of a gold, octagonal, seven-story pagoda.
The first tier is enclosed by balustrades that are decorated with openwork patterns. At the front, there are steps up to an arched doorway. Each tier has four arched doorways that alternate with four openwork windows. Within each arched doorway, there is a Buddha seated on a lotus throne. The roof hips are in the form of dragons holding a bell in their mouths, and the spire consists of a harmika, followed by a jeweled inverted lotus, a flame design, and a flaming pearl made of coral.
