Bronze
The exact place of origin of this statue is unknown but the tall crown in the shape of a stupa seems to assign the statue either to Thailand or Cambodia. The figure has joined eyebrows above eyes slightly incised to indicate pupils. The nose is broad and the mouth is wide and full-lipped. Conical earrings hang down to a layered neck ornament.
The presence of the monastic robe is only indicated by the deep fall of the hem over the wrists. Beneath the robe, the under-robe is secured low on the hips by an ornamented belt with the same design as the necklace. Both of the Buddha’s palms have Dharma wheels and are held in the abhaya (fearlessness) mudras.
