Guangyuan Thousand Buddha Cliff Rock Carvings Cave 806: Attendant Bodhisattva

CHINA, Sichuan, Guangyuan; Tang dynasty

Located on the right beside the Sakyamuni and Prabhutaratna Buddhas in Cave 806, this Bodhisattva stands gracefully upon a lotus pedestal. The Bodhisattva wears a topknot covered by a small headdress, a long garment draped with a shawl, and long stoles. The face is rounded with fine eyebrows, narrow eyes, and prominent lips. Armlets decorate the arms, and a long beaded ornament hangs in front of the body. Both hands hold the long stem of a lotus.
