Sanpa was a prominent artist in Ladakh during the 16th century. His name can be found in the inscriptions on the murals of Four-Armed Avalokitesvara and Padmasambhava located on the north wall of the central hall at Phyang Monastery in Ladakh.
During the late 16th century, the names and birth places of artists who had painted the murals would appear below the paintings, thus providing an important resource for research on the local artists and the development of art in Ladakh.
