Shi Weize

CHINA, Jiangsu, Suzhou; Tang dynasty

Shi Weize, born Shi Hao, was a calligrapher from Wujun (present day Suzhou, Jiangsu). He was appointed as an imperial secretary during the rule of Emperor Xuanzong (reigned 712–756) of the Tang dynasty.
As an accomplished calligrapher, Shi was reputed for his works in clerical script. His calligraphy was used for Stele of Master Dazhi, which dates from 736 and is regarded as the best work of clerical script calligraphy from Shi’s time.
