Shifang Pujue Temple Reclining Buddha Hall: Reclining Buddha

The temple is also known locally as Wofo Temple due to the large reclining Buddha enshrined inside. The statue measures 530 cm long and 80 cm high, and is considered to be the largest reclining Buddha in Beijing.
The right arm of the figure is bent to support the head and the left arm lies flat along the body, while the feet are placed parallel upon each other. Other Buddha characteristics include a mounded usnisa, an urna, extended earlobes and the three lines on the neck. The figure is dressed in an outer robe that is opened at the front and covered with traditional field- patterns, while the inner robe is decorated with floral patterns. The statue shows the skill of Yuan dynasty (1271–1368) metal casting. A row of disciples are lined up behind the Buddha. The figures are wearing crowns and are generally similar in appearance but with different postures.
