Bingling Temple Cave 3: Standing Bodhisattva

CHINA, Gansu, Linxia; Tang dynasty

This standing Bodhisattva is located within the niche on the lower section of the south wall, to the left of the seated Buddha. The figure stands barefoot upon a rounded lotus pedestal. The Bodhisattva’s hair is tied into a high topknot with a rounded face and delicate features. The upper torso is bare, with a long lower garment worn on the lower body. The figure wears ornaments such as a beaded necklace, armlets, and bracelets. One hand hangs down to hold a long sash beside the body, while the other hand holds an alms bowl in front of the abdomen.
