Vajrapani Bodhisattva with Vajra Anuchara

The image of Vajrapani Bodhisattva with Vajra Anuchara originated from Nepal. Vajrapani wears a plain, pointed crown, which is a simplified version of the five-Buddha crown. The body is adorned with simple jewelry and a sash is tied precariously on the hip. Faint lines of the dhoti can be seen on the legs, which are influenced from the Gupta style. Vajrapani holds a vajra in the right hand, while the left hand is gently placed on the head of the attendant. The latter’s features are indistinct, but the hands are crossed at the chest, and some pieces of jewelry are visible, as well as a sash tied at his waist. The worn features indicate that the statue was used in ceremonies and therefore deteriorated with use.
