此東印度梵文貝葉經《大乘莊嚴寶王經》共五十三頁，每頁高5公分，長35公分。十一至十二世紀的印度寫經，一般是圖文互不相關，然此經插圖卻以經文內容為題材，描繪觀音菩薩化現之功德，實屬罕見。
畫面貝葉中央繪故事圖，兩側燙孔處對稱飾塔龕，龕內畫佛、菩薩或護法像。上頁中央描繪觀音化成神駒，救護商人之子逃出羅剎鬼國。中頁觀音手結說法印，舒坐於寶座上，此經之當機眾除蓋障菩薩合掌趺坐請法。下頁觀音披紅色帔帛，繫同色腰布，左手上舉右手下垂，三屈而立，遍體揮灑甘露，救度地獄眾生。
整體主題清晰，構圖精簡而靈動，設色柔和，筆致細膩。
