Okadera Temple: Gien Sojo

該像約製作於八世紀末，為等身之肖像雕刻，妝彩。義淵是日本奈良時代（710～794）初期法相宗的高僧，為奈良岡寺之開山祖師。一九五七年指定為日本國寶。
坐像頭部、身軀由檜木整材雕出，雙肩、足部及手腕等以另材接合，除頭部外，像刳空。粗眉蹙緊，二重眼瞼低垂，高鼻，雙耳垂肩，眼角、面頰深刻皺紋，具個性的老僧面貌，神情靜謐安詳。骨骼粗大，雙膝厚實，外披袈裟，左肩繫帶，敞開前襟，露出肋骨，頸部肌肉鬆弛，表現瘦老之相。雙手輕置膝上，手指微屈，似持如意。
像身為木心乾漆造製作，外表薄塗以漆混合木屑或香木粉之木屑漆塑造耳、鼻、嘴巴等細節部分，表現柔和的質感，皺紋和衣紋呈現出微妙的起伏，寫實逼真。
