一九○七年新疆維吾爾自治區巴音郭楞蒙古自治州焉耆回族自治縣七個星佛教遺址出土，由英國人斯坦因發現。男子頭像的卷髮挽束於頭頂若髻，髮端散垂，蹙眉，額上兩道橫紋，神情驚傷。寬鼻，顴骨下兩條縱紋，張口露齒，宛若嚎啕呼喊狀。臉部施以紅彩，表情生動逼真。
