惠能為中國禪宗六祖，所作偈語：「菩提本無樹，明鏡亦非台，本來無一物，何處惹塵埃」，五祖識得知其能傳大法，故傳其法。「既非風動，亦非幡動，仁者心動」禪門機鋒，亦出自惠能。
像為一睿智老者的形象，面露微笑，安詳和藹。著交領白色僧衣，雙手相疊，結跏趺坐於石座上。用色單純，棕色與白色的對比，加強了寧靜的氣氛。作者借用傳統佛像的作法，將衣襬疊置覆蓋台座形成裝飾化的懸裳座，讓人生起端肅敬仰之感。
