佛傳圖以完整的象牙雕刻，表現釋迦牟尼佛從出生至涅槃的整個歷程。故事採連環圖形式，依象牙形狀、弧度雕刻而成。由下而上，共有二十一組故事，以聯珠紋和仰覆蓮瓣的飾帶隔開成節狀。每一節鏤刻數個情節，並以類似交纏的雙龍分隔畫面。
牙雕上的每則佛傳故事均主題清晰，構圖豐富多元。如樹下誕生，摩耶夫人左手高舉，攀握無憂樹，右手扶搭其妹摩訶波闍波提，另有數名女從環侍；樹後方有梵天人物，合十禮讚悉達多太子的降誕。又如太子箭穿鐵鼓，位於中央的太子，高擎良弓立於高台上，周圍隨從姿態各異，或立、或蹲坐，形象生動。
作品中每位人物均刻劃細膩，服裝帶有東南亞風格。類此巨大象牙所雕成之藝術品，因材質稀少，已成為罕見的珍品。
