此圖繪釋迦苦行六年出山的景象。圖上方有南宋（1127～1279）僧人道沖題贊「入山太枯瘦／雪上帶霜意／冷眼□一星／何再出人間／淳祐甲辰八月二日／太白台山 道沖 贊」。
釋迦髮蓬鬆，頭微俯，眼下視而神情專注。雙手舉於胸前，衣袂飄揚。五官以細筆勾勒，細膩清楚，其餘用粗筆。描繪五官、臂釧及腳鐲用濃墨，衣紋、坡地以淡墨掃出，坡地間略用濃墨點簇，畫風樸拙。
